RE: Flip video camera yes or no?

We don't leave the house without the video camera and the still camera.
For video you want to get digital and if you can afford it - get High-Definition Digital. The regular digitals are very good and inexpensive now but HD is better. The camera could record to a tape, internal Hard Drive or a DVD. Personally I always have the laptop along so I would go with internal Hard Drive since the DVD recording can be slow and if you don't have a new DVD you're stuck. But tapes are cheap and can pile up in the bag until later when you can get to work with them.
You can take the video from any of those into a pc and then record it on DVD or another hard drive. Get HD digital and get as much "Optical Zoom" as you can afford and you'll be very happy.

Holiday Rambler and my ONAN - HR got me again!!!

I wanted to post a problem and the solution to document so perhaps someone else won't have to spend so long on repair.
HR is a 2004 model with 5.5K Onan. Nice rig. The gen ran very well then started to be intermittant. It would run or stop and then run later or not. Run for short time or run all day - weird!!
I thought fuel pump so I pulled the pump off the bottom of the Onan and replaced it - Same problems.
Solution: Turns out that when it was built HR used metal pipe from the gen back to the fuel tank BUT!! at each end they used a section of cheap rubber fuel hose to connect to the gen and the fuel tank. The hose had deteriorated and the cracks in the hose would either let in air or not as they wiggled. Replaced hose at gen - easy - needed to drop tank to replace other end so (and I'm not proud of this) I taped end of hose to a stick - pushed hose on nipple on top of tank and taped down the stick. Next time I can get it to a lift I'll get stick removed and clamp the hose down.
I'd like to NOT thank HR for that little bit of money they saved building the coach!!!

RE: Sugar beet harvest in North Dakota ?

I saw one ad that said $2K for the few weeks and you work at the recieving station. Unfortunately, by the time you buy fuel to get to North Dakota and back you've used up the pay..............

RE: Curious about workamping/volunteering difference

The part about being "required by the job to live on site" applies to both paid and volunteer. It's a good idea to get it in writing but that's just suspenders with your belt. If the park includes the site on your W2 or 1099 you just claim it as a deductible expense(since you're required to live on-site) so it's a wash anyway.

RE: Help with Electrical Problem

ONe GFI outlet can feed up to 5 other outlets. So if it pops there could be 5 others out also (usually only 2 or 3 though). Resetting it is not a problem. If there's a short it'll just pop right back out. It should click in and then pop back out if ITS working and there is a problem.

RE: What are the best sources for WK jobs?

If you want paying jobs the best two are workamper.com and the KOA Jobs site.
The volunteer jobs are also (SOME) on workamper and the others on the volunteer site.
All in all with those 3 you should find something you like.

RE: a/c wont work on shore power?

You'd need to look at the end of the plug - 4 prongs = 50amp and 3 prongs = 30 amp.
If 50 amp(actually 2 120v circuits) it could be a power problem with wiring from the shore power or if 30 amp the voltage may be low since everybody is probably running a/c.
Sounds like your coach is fine since all works well on the genny.

RE: converting wmv to mp3

IN Windows Media Player - if you go to More Options in the drop-down and choose the plug-ins tab - then click on Windows and check the Windows Audio Converter button and then APPLY - whewwww!!
Then the Audio Converter pops up. Long process but it works well.

RE: Scenic route Out of maggie Valley?

You can do the 51 miles of the Cherohala Skyway over to Tellico Plains, TN - that's a beautiful ride along the mountain ridge. There are a few interesting stops along the way. GOOGLE it and there is a page for NC and a page for TN.
If you're seriously brave there is The Dragon - Route 129 - here's a quote "318 curves in 11 miles, WOW. Conquered 'The Dragon' on August 12. Stay within the speed limit of 30 MPH and the ride is very pleasant. If you press your luck to determine 'your limit', The Dragon will win." AND THIS GUY WAS ON A MOTORCYCLE.
HeHeHe
Here's a website: http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ it's a long page so just keep scrolling down for pictures and then there's a link for the Cherohala at the top of the page.

RE: Owning and operating a campground

The key is in the profitability of the business. We've owned and operated a large Equestrian Center and the profitability was such that we had to do much of the work ourself (6am-11pm,7days,52 weeks a year). That was quickly not worth it. We've got a self-storage place that can close on Sunday and at night and afford a part-time person and vacation help, etc - that's not bad since we just got back from 3 weeks RV'ing thru New England...
So, to my mind it's all about profitability.

RE: Kitchen Faucet No Hot Water

A bit more info and a clearer question would have helped. Was there any water at all from the hot side? If there was, was it cold or warm? Did it ever work and now it doesn't?

RE: The doghouse ...

The carpet helps with the noise and it also helps with the heat from the engine. The floors in the front and the doghouse get pretty warm while running the interstate on a hot day so I would keep the carpet and add more insulation on the inside of the doghouse.

RE: Where, in what, how old when you learned to drive

Well, at 15 in Virginia at the time you could drive a motorscooter so I drove my Vespa from Alexandria to Rappahanock and back. If I was lucky it would do 38mph on the flat. Would be run-over and killed in the first mile of that trip today at 35mph.

RE: FL State Vin Verification

Many areas of Florida, Citrus County being one of them, have "Citizens On Patrol" groups and in that are Public Service Officers who will be happy to do any of this type thing it turns out you may need. They are sheriff's department but not sworn officers that document no-injury accidents and after-the-fact thefts and things like that..

RE: Woman Run Over and Killed at Forestville SP in Minnesota

We use the little radios, I drive and Karen guides and we have one hard and fast rule. "The RV does NOT MOVE if she is not talking!" She stops even for a second and the RV stops. Works great............

RE: Is there a way to drain my water tank?

On our '96 Brave the tank was under the bed and if you slid off the plywood under the mattress and layed on top of the tank you could just see a drain valve in the back end of the tank between the tank and the wall. They are VERY creative in hiding the valve. That rig had been worked over to make it handle the cold so it may have been one of a kind.

RE: mountain braking

I don't have a grade Brake switch either but the tranny stays engaged so the engine can brake the rig as I downshift.

RE: black hose attachment ?

Seriously then - On our rig there is a place to connect the shore water and also a faucet for water from the RV and then a place to connect water to flush the black tank. I made a short hose that goes from the RV faucet (with a backflow valve built in) to the flush tank fitting. I can flush either with shore water or RV pump water that way. Or if the hose is not connected wash my hands.....

RE: Onan not playing well

That sounds very much like the regulator board is going out. If it runs fine until the load jumps up and then dies that frequently is the controller(regulator?) board.

RE: windshield heat ?

I've seen some that supposedly just hold on the outside with static cling.
We just use the curtains that pull all the way around on the inside primarily because it's quick and easy enough we can do it at rest stops and such. We don't tow so like to be able to do a full hook-up or unhook in 5 minutes.
